Program Services

More money than ever went to program services, with support for research, PWSA, and support topping the list!

Research
PWSA of Colorado supports PWS research through the Foundation for Prader-Willi Research (FPWR). See the following page for more details on PWS research and their efforts.

Awareness & Brand
PWSA of Colorado launched their new brand within Colorado last year in 2006. This brand was used for the first time at its Derby fund raiser. In addition, PWSA of Colorado actively worked to get this brand supported by PWSA USA nationwide. With the help of pro-bono legal services from Latham and Watkins LLP, we were able to get the “Still Hungry for a Cure” tag line trademark application filed with the USPTO. In addition, we reached agreement with PWSA USA to transfer ownership of this new brand identity to them. Our plans are to help them expand this brand, support the transition to it, and help roll this brand out across their organization in 2007.

Why a new brand?
We believe that this brand will better communicate the mission and purpose of PWSA. For a syndrome as rare as Prader-Willi syndrome, it is imperative that organizations like PWSA effectively get their message across any chance they have. We are confident that we will maximize this effectiveness moving forward with the “Still Hungry for a Cure” brand.

PWSA-USA

PWSA USA provides a critical services to families all over the USA. Through PWSA, families can get crisis intervention, clinical advice (given directly to the physician), and other forms of counseling and support. PWSA of Colorado continues to support PWSA and these services they provide.

Colorado Families
We continued to help families in Colorado with urgent needs and we also hosted several gatherings where parents and families could meet and share stories. We had annual swimming parties, and a late December trip to the Denver Zoo (accompanied by coffee and hot-chocolate donated by Starbucks). One of the best educational tools for families with PWS children is to interact with each other. We will continue to promote that in 2007 with several new events planned. We also will continue to look for ways to support our older families by helping them evaluate long-term care opportunities both in and out of the state.
